A system of knowledge enabling humanity to study and understand UTs, thereby helping ensure the continuity of life here on the planet and/or outer space.
There is no single private or public, national or international, entity that oversees unpredictable threats (hereon in known as UTs), either natural, man-made, and/or extra-terrestrial.
The global and national system in place is a stop-gap group of agencies and organizations that come up on an as-needed basis.
Also, there is no organization, institution, or government agency that promotes research and development, as well as education, about Continuity Science.
Most surprisingly, the technology available to handle, much less overcome, these threats are based on efforts that rely on mere survival.
FEMA, fo example, has identified “scenario sets” for its disaster preparedness.[1] They are categorized into the following:
-
Explosives Attack – Bombing Using Improvised Explosive Device
-
Nuclear Attack
-
Radiological Attack – Radiological Dispersal Device
-
Biological Attack – With annexes for different pathogens
-
Chemical Attack – With annexes for different agents
-
Natural Disaster
-
Cyber Attack
-
Pandemic Influenza
More specifically, FEMA has a list of “Different Types of Disasters and Hazards:”[2]
Continuity Science hopes to change this paradigm by identifying, studying, and understanding as much as we can about UTs.
III. Current Irrational Paradigms of Post-apocalyptic Scenarios
Science fiction is more influential today than science fact.
Movies like War of the Worlds, Mad Max, Terminator, Matrix, The Postman, Waterworld, I am Legend, 28 Days Later, the upcoming 2012, or the television series Jericho, along with religious indoctrinations, humanity is given the mindset that nothing can be done to prepare, overcome, and surpass the vaunted end-of-days.
We are led to believe that only a few will survive and they will have to start anew, scrounging and fighting for bits and parcels of food and other basic necessities, all the while crying and lamenting about their plight.
IV. A Prediction of Human Ineptitude
If and when doomsday comes, the surviving few will probably be hitting themselves on the head and blaming themselves and each other for not preparing for a post-UT scenario, all the while recalling that humanity had (or has) the capability, awareness, not to mention the science and technology to control his or her fate.
V. The Science of Continuity
Science fiction is a good starting point for the imagination.
Jules Verne envisioned the submarine in Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, and Gene Roddenberry gave a glimpse of a possible future with the starship Enterprise.
Battlestar Gallactica, however, provides better examples of ideas for CS, along with the technologies that can be created and their economic windfall.
CS asks one simple question:
Doomsday-scenario movies make money from imagination and science fiction.
Continuity Channel intends to drive the economy through realization and science fact.
